143rd Day in the NICU

Today while we were out someone mentioned that there was an Article in the Marshall County Tribune. If you remember we had a reporter talk to us but we never knew the story was in the tribune. Apparently it was printed on 9-12-08. http://www.marshalltribune.com/story/1460563.html is the article but unfortunately it is not the full one. Click on the Picture below to see the entire article.

Today we got the go ahead from the bank and Drayke's Medical Fund is now setup. We are going to be opening a P.O.Box for those who are going to be sending checks. Right now the Bank is allowing people to go into their local branch and make a donation but they will have to state that they are wanting to make a deposit to Joan King, trustee, Drayke Crom Medical Fund. We also just setup a paypal account as well. (Check out the link to the right).

To everyone who has sent emails, snail mail, called us, or messaged us we want to express our greatest thanks for all the support we have been given. I am so glad we have such a good support structure that we can continue to rely on. Keep sending the prayers and positive energy our way.

Little one today just is so handsome. He is currently at 76% Oxygen which is just awesome. He is back up 1 oz to 8 lb 14 oz.

This article is about Drayke Crum, a little baby boy who was born prematurely. Even thought he was born 12 weeks early, Drayke’s parents were all ready to bring him home after birth. But after getting pneumonia, the doctors discovered that Drayke had an enlarged heart and lung tissue damage. Drayke also has to have a tube down his throat for air and food has to be put directly into his stomach. When the doctors suggested letting nature take its course, the Kings wouldn’t even hear of it. After a little research they discovered that St. Louis Children’s Hospital would be able to give Drayke hope by giving him a lung transplant. After talking to the doctors, Mr. and Mrs. King also discovered that Drayke will most likely grow into his heart and be able to over come that. After all this the Kings will still have do to some work for their son. He will need to be taken care of at home, which means Mr. and Mrs. King will need to learn how to maintain a central line, draw blood, and administer medication. However according to Mrs. King, this won’t be a problem. “As long as he is fighting, we are not going to give up on him.”
I chose this article for two reasons. One of the reasons is because it as to do with health. In this article Drayke as to overcome several medical problems, such as an enlarged heart and damaged lungs, in order to survive. The second reason is because Drayke is my best friend’s cousin and I think that his story of determination at only a few weeks old should be told. For more information about Drayke you can go to http://draykecrom.blogspot.com/ where his parents keep a blog of his day to day progress.
In my summary I might have used some information that was not in the article; I got it from Drayke’s blog.

In health class we have to look up articles that relate to health and write a summary about it. I chose the article that you posted and that was the summary that I wrote. I thought maybe you would like to see it.
